In human history, thinkers and designers have always tried to catch a glimpse and define the future through stories, dreams and visions that more often than not proved realistic in the short term but more in a few years or a decade.
This little preamble I need to point out that what I'm going to write on these pages will probably not be what the designer will result in mass in 2011 but is a phenomenon that will occupy the minds of many minds in the world.
say what will happen in 2011 is quite easy because the trends of innovation in the last three years have been fairly straightforward: we will talk more and more mobility, more and more of the life stream and a synchronous parallel between real life and the virtual life, things that we know now and we live daily.
is obvious from these that I start to say something but is beginning to turn more and more in the minds of developers and designers with whom I compare myself daily that is the realization of a very simple concept: bring products and digital services to physical quoditiana to improve the lives of people across a range of experience increased.
The question now is clear: what we're talking about practice?
digital products and services (especially the latter) in recent years after running along the concepts of social discovered the possibility to take a geographical significance to that, especially in mobility, has started to place the ' use of services at a place (to be clear: local news from the list of your friends in the area) and that we see daily in applications installed on our phones.
Who but in the last two years has dealt with the definition of services is realized in a single spatial location to another factor that is the temporal location. Today, we are able to know who uses a particular service in a particular place at a given time (a little 'as the concept of spime Sterling ), which consequently allows us to take life context in which a person moves.
This in practical terms has led to the shaping of local and hyperlocal services as Yelp that at lunchtime in a certain place you can suggest automatically close a restaurant with free spaces and its menu of the day (which probably will be aligned to your taste).
Thus, the services are already starting to be a tool that improves and simplifies the little things we do in our lives, giving us a return of real value and bringing us to discover a physical world that is worth of be discovered and explored.
This reality will materialize in 2011 but increasingly there are those, like me, already thinking of going further.
fact, today this system works because a user finds the service is concerned, it is chosen, will adopt and actively cares for use (for example, to check in on foursquare ), but the next step is imagining that you will be full transparency through the adoption physicalization services through objects and their related integration with the architecture of buildings and facilities in town.
fact cities like Tokyo in Japan are structuring the logic of urban digital services (such as in underground JR) that enhance the experience better everyday, or you are building up structures with a high density of connections sensors and digital input / output enable designers to design services natively integrated into the living space.
Well, certainly in 2011 we will be in future mobility, probably we will move on products and services with more and more local purposes, but we will talk about how our city will change when the digital world and the physical world will be overlapped by creating city sensitive.
